Announced eBay Policies Take Effect

Fall changes include new auction fee, required photos and location info.

The October winds are bringing changes to eBay. The marketplace reports that starting this week, several new policies take effect. Sellers who end auctions with at least one bid early will face a new fee, some listings will require at least one image and, at the end of the month, eBay will start adding city and state information to listings based on sellers’ ZIP codes. iPhone Listings Soar on eBay

iPhone 4 listings spike 223 percent with debut of iPhone 5.

eBay Unveils New Logo

More contemporary design better represents company, exec says.

The season will soon be changing—and so will eBay’s logo. Devin Wenig, president of Marketplaces, introduced the site’s new logo today. He describes the logo as a “cleaner” and “more contemporary” design that is “rooted in our proud history and reflects a dynamic future.” The look keeps the old logo’s signature colors: red, blue, yellow and green, but makes them more rounded and takes away the overlapping letters of the current eBay logo. eBay, Verisk Partners in Crime Analytics

Companies will share data to fight retail crime, fraud and theft.

eBay is teaming with a provider of risk assessment solutions to fight retail crime, counterfeiting and online fraud. Verisk Crime Analytics announced eBay’s partnership with its Law Enforcement Retail Partnership Network on Tuesday. It reports that the two companies will work on developing ways to share and use data to provide retailers and police with “crime fighting analytics.” Each company will have staff working on these, but no details were given about what analytics will focus on. eBay is asking buyers and sellers to be patient if they’re buying from or selling to someone on the Gulf Coast, an area affected by Hurricane Isaac.
