Summer is typically a time of slower sales, as shoppers take a holiday from buying to enjoy the great outdoors. Apparently, visitors to Etsy didn’t get the memo.
The marketplace for trendy handmade and vintage goods reports that $69.5 million worth of goods were sold on the site in July. That’s 12.3 percent higher than Etsy’s June GMV, and a stunning 75 percent higher than last July.
July’s GMV was just shy of Etsy’s all-time high of $69.8 million set in December 2011.
Etsy sellers weigh in
A number of Etsy sellers confirmed that July was a record sales month for them.
“We had a fantastic July, and are on our way [to] top our holiday months’ sales now in August,” states one seller.
While not all Etsy sellers experienced robust sales, one poster notes that “a rising tide lifts all boats.”
The marketplace reports that 3.38 million items were sold in July—an increase of 14.7 percent from June, and 66.2 percent from July 2011.
Etsy counted 785,029 new members in July, up 13.8 percent from June.
