eBay to Buy WHI Solutions

Acquisition will expand eBay Motors' catalog, help sellers list inventory, officials say.

eBay will acquire software and digital catalog solutions provider WHI Solutions, a service for auto parts distributers and retailers, officials announced today.

The acquisition will help eBay expand its eBay Motors catalog in a variety of vehicle categories from parts to specialty equipment. The deal will also help sellers more easily list inventory by giving them access to auto-populating listing fields, including descriptions, images and SKUs.

“With the innovative team and technology of WHI, eBay gains expanded selection and access to enhanced structured data, which we believe will enable eBay Motors to improve parts selections and value for customers, while enabling parts retailers, distributors, dealers and manufactures to reach more customers,” eBay says.

According to WHI Solutions’ site, the company serves more than 16,000 auto parts distributors and retailers, and was named one of the “Best of the Web” sites by Forbes magazine two years in a row in the business-to-business category.

WHI Solutions’ offices in New York, New Jersey and Los Angles will remain where they are, eBay adds. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, nor was the deal’s expected close date.
