eBay Adjusts Best Match

Marketplace extends holiday promotion into the new year.

eBay sellers who want to rank high in Best Match searches should consider offering expedited shipping, longer return times and free shipping.

That’s because eBay recently announced it would extend into 2012 a holiday promotion that gave sellers better search placement when they offered free shipping, one-day handling times, expedited or one-day shipping, and a return policy of 14 days or longer.

eBay first announced the promotion in October, noting it would give sellers who offered these options a higher ranking in search results, plus a discount on final value fees. The marketplace noted that it was offering the promotion through the 2011 holiday season because shoppers crave these when they buy online.

With so many eBay sellers adding these options to their listings during the holidays and seeing “the benefit,” eBay decided to add these factors to its Best Match algorithm in 2012, according to the announcement.

eBay encourages merchants to add these services to their listings to rank higher in search. It did not say if it would continue the final value fees discount in the new year.
