A Same-Day Delivery Service by Google?

Rumored project expected to be cheaper than Amazon Prime.

Days after eBay announced the expansion of its same-day delivery service to a third city in the U.S., reports say Google is gearing up for the launch of its own same-day delivery service.

TechCrunch reports Google will introduce Google Shopping Express, a service that will allow buyers to order items from retailers and have them delivered the same day for a fee of between $10 and $15 less than Amazon’s Amazon Prime, or between $64 and $69 a year.

eBay charges a $5 fee for its service, eBay Now, which it offers in New York City, San Francisco and San Jose.

No projected launch date was reported for Google Shopping Express, though TechCrunch did say Tom Fallows, the ecommerce product manager of Google, is in charge of the project. For the service, Google is said to be working with Target, Walmart, Walgreens and Safeway. eBay Now works with Target, Walgreens and several other retailers.

Despite the reports, Google isn’t ready to say anything about the rumored project.

In a statement to PCMag, a Google spokesperson notes, “[Google is] always working to build a delightful shopping experience for users, in close partnership with retailers, and to empower businesses of all sizes to compete effectively. We will continue to work toward providing technology tools and traffic to help power the retail ecosystem but have nothing to announce at this time.”

What do you think of the rumored service?
