Temperatures may have dropped during the month of December, but Etsy sales were hot, growing by double digits compared to November, and by more than 70 percent compared to December 2011.
That’s what Etsy’s Sinohe Terrero tells sellers on the Etsy News Blog. He reports merchants sold $117.8 million worth of goods after returns and cancelations. That’s an 11.6-percent increase compared to November’s $105.6 million total.
Compared to December 2011, sales were up by 72.9 percent, Terrero reports.
“Great job, Etsy sellers. I had a wonderful Christmas season, and it looks like many, many others did, too”“The ultimate month of gifting meant new records for the Etsy community in GMS, items sold, and new members,” he adds.
During December, more than 6 million items were sold on the marketplace—a 9.3-percent increase compared to November, when shoppers snatched up about 5.5 million products. That might surprise some considering there were 21.2 percent fewer items listed on Etsy during December compared to November, Terrero adds.
However, more people did sign up for the marketplace in December compared to the previous month. In fact, more than 1.4 million new people joined Etsy in December—a 27.9-percent increase compared to November, he notes.
Sellers were happy with the news of Etsy sales growing. Pepper of Etsy shop pepsy says, “My December sales were great this year! I’m glad to hear everyone on Etsy got a nice holiday bump. I can’t wait to see if I get more post-holiday sales from gift card purchases!”
Jennifer of livjewllery adds, “Great job, Etsy sellers. I had a wonderful Christmas season, and it looks like many, many others did, too.”
