Sellers of love potions, witches spells and other brews will have to find another marketplace. eBay will stop allowing these items on the site very soon.
Starting Aug. 30, eBay will ban the sale of spells and potions, and sellers who list these items after that date may have their accounts suspended. eBay decided to ban the mystical listings because conflicts between buyers and sellers regarding these items were too hard to resolve, it reports.
The ban sparked a petition on GoPetition.com, asking eBay to reconsider its decision. It has garnered more than 1,400 signatures as of today. The poster says many people work hard to offer their potions, magic and blessings for a living, and that many others depend on such services.
eBay’s ban comes about a week and a half after Etsy updated its prohibited items list to include bones, human remains and body parts—excluding hair and teeth. That ban took effect on Aug. 8. When Etsy decided to ban these items, it noted it would reach out to merchants who would be affected by the policy change.
“While we understand that it is possible for certain items to be carefully and legally bought and sold, Etsy is just not the right venue for them,” writes Lauren Engelhardt, Etsy’s policy manager, about the change.
