eBay to Protect Sellers Impacted by Storms

Marketplace will monitor seller ratings, asks for patience.

eBay will protect the performance ratings of sellers who are in areas impacted by the long power outages that struck the Midwest and East Cost late last week.

The marketplace made the announcement on Tuesday, noting it is contacting buyers and sellers who may have been affected by the severe summer storms that left millions without power for several days. eBay adds it will tell buyers and sellers about the storms and let them know what they should do next.

“We will also protect sellers from lower performance ratings received due to these disruption-related issues,” eBay states. “If you are involved in an eBay transaction with a buyer or seller in one of these affected regions, please note that their ability to communicate or complete your transaction may be delayed due to these severe conditions. We encourage you to be patient in this matter, both throughout the transaction and when providing feedback once your item arrives.”

Officials report that power was restored to most residents by Tuesday, but some may be in the dark until the weekend. Areas affected include Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Ohio.
