Etsy Sales Climb in May

Sales up 68.5 percent year over year.

May was a sunny and lucrative month for Etsy sellers, who saw a slight increase in the number of sales compared to April of this year but a big jump year over year.

Etsy reports that sales on the artisan marketplace increased 3.6 percent in May of this year compared to April. That brought in nearly $66 million in sales on the site. However, May sales were up 68.5 percent compared to May 2011.

“The Etsy community rode through the month with sunny days and growth to match,” writes Etsy blogger Sinohe Terrero on the Etsy News blog.

Overall, more than 3,034,000 items sold on the artisan marketplace during the month of May, a 2.4-percent increase compared to April. Many of those items—more than 2,248,100, in fact—were new products, which is about 2 percent more than in April.

What’s more, the site recorded 1.29 billion page views during May, Terrero adds.

The news made Etsy sellers very happy. Several commented on the blog post. TheSewingGin, a seller who offers vintage fabrics and sewing accessories, wrote, “So glad to see Etsy is continuing to grow.”

Bizzie, a merchant who sells purses on the site, adds “Fantastic! I know my May was much better this year than last. Here’s to an even better June.”
