Amazon and the state of Nevada have reached an agreement. The retail giant will begin collecting and remitting online sales tax for Nevada at the beginning of 2014, or as of the date decided on by federal legislation, whichever is earlier.
Brian Sandoval, the governor of Nevada, notes in his announcement that the company will also work with him to encourage federal legislation that will create a framework for online sales tax collection that meets the needs of states, retailers and consumers.
“The only way to completely resolve this issue is for Congress to enact legislation that, within a simplified nationwide framework, grants states the right to require collection by all sellers,” Sandoval says.
