Tias.com Voted Best Place to Buy Collectibles

Auction site wins About.com Readers' Choice Award for a second time.

When it comes to buying antiques and collectibles, About.com readers prefer Tias.com. They like it so much, in fact, that readers voted the online antiques mall the top destination for collectibles during this year’s About.com Readers’ Choice Awards.

Tias.com received 37 percent of votes, putting it above Bonanza, which finished second on the list. Bonanza received 32 percent of votes. Etsy placed third, with 18 percent and eBay placed fourth, with 8 percent.

Sellers also had their say in this category, though the results were reversed among the top two vote-getters. For the second year in a row, sellers voted Bonanza their favorite place to sell collectibles, with 39 percent of votes, while Tias.com placed second, with 26 percent. Etsy and eBay were runners-up on this list, too, receiving 21 percent and 8 percent, respectively.

About.com did not say how many votes, in total, were counted.

This was the second year Tias.com was nominated and won the buyer-favorite award, notes Phillip Davies, president of Tias.com Inc. He attributes the win to the site’s inventory.

“I feel that About.com readers voted for us because we have such a huge selection of merchandise and, when a customer buys from one of our merchants, they are also covered by the Tias’ Trusted Merchant Guarantee, which means that Tias guarantees their order for up to $500 of the purchase price,” he adds.

Tias.com began in 1995 and serves more than 400 sellers, who offer more than 630,000 antiques and collectibles. According to the company, the site gets about 700,000 visitors every month.

This was the fifth year for the About.com Readers’ Choice Awards, which recognize companies and services in more than 12 categories, ranging from technology to parenting, to hobbies, officials note. Voting for the awards took place from Feb. 22 to March 21.
