The wedding invitations, scarves, jewelry, party favors and other artisan crafts found on Etsy are making their way around the Internet, particularly on one social site, according to new findings.
That site would be Pinterest, a content curation site that lets users organize and share the items they like with others. According to Zoomsphere, a social media stats tool, Etsy goods are making such a big splash on Pinterest that the marketplace is the second most popular source of content for Pinterest users.
But that’s not where Etsy’s popularity ends. The marketplace is also the second most followed brand on Pinterest with nearly 61,000 followers, Zoomsphere reports.
Google is the top source of content on Pinterest, Zoomsphere notes, adding that Google and Etsy account for about 20,000 pins on Pinterest a day. Amazon is the third most popular source of content on the site with about 32,000 pins a month. Tumblr is the fourth top source of content on Pinterest, followed by Polyvore and YouTube.
Nancy Messieh, a writer for online publication The Next Web, says the popularity of Etsy content on Pinterest likely has to do with the site’s emphasis on photos and Etsy being a very visual marketplace.
